Erik Satie certainly had no idea that his compositions would evoke text and voice. And they did. They evoked it in Ines Trickovic. Satie’s Gnossiennes gave her cognition that by joining her lyrics and voice she would get to know herself, to be fully truthful on her musical sheet of life, not caring for the partitions that divide bar from bar, as Satie does not care, having in front of her, like himself, a world as big pear, juicy, edible and melodious.

What Satie knows under her capricious magic fingers, Ines writes and sings: “Distant seas make distant seas returning to home. // Closest dreams make closest dreams still burning through time. “Neither she nor Satie love unnaturalness or falsehood, which is why Ines calls out:” Share with me my power. Eat all fallouts and liars. ”

After all, doesn’t  Ines mean ” innocent ” just as is Erik Satie.

Ines you are not only singing Erik Satie, you are shapeshifting

Writer and academic, LUKO PALJETAK

The project HOMAGE TO ERIK SATIE BY INES TRICKOVIC was started by award-winning jazz vocalist Ines Trickovic as a blend of classical music and jazz.

In this project Erik Satie’s piano compositions from the opus of Gnossienne and Gymnopedie came to life in a new never before seen way. Satie’s piano instrumentals became vocal pieces-singing songs with a jazz flavor with lyrics by Ines Trickovic. For the first time in history.

Following tightly Satie’s fingers note by note ,beat by beat, her lyrics blend in such way that the listener has a feeling those lyrics somehow always existed. This hypnotic and blended atmosphere was only possible because she tightly followed each and every note Satie wrote in his music, singing it fully.

Vocally demanding, impossible to imagine, dangerous to even try but at the end simply beautiful.

Ines has created through last few years 2 versions of this Homage. Quartet version (voice, piano – Hrvoje Galler, double bass – Zvonimir Šestak, and violin – Goran Končar), and Orchestral version – where for the first time in history the work of Erik Satie – Gnossienne was fully orchestrated and arranged for orchestra by Petros Klampanis.

Ines is the author of all the lyrics adapted to original music but rearranged in her own view and esthetic that represents both her heart and Satie’s heart in unison. In this project, Trickovic brings together the best of jazz and classical music in this project.

The world premiere of the orchestral version of the program “Homage to Erik Satie” was held on August 21st 2019 at the Rector’s Palace in Dubrovnik, Croatia with Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Marc Tardue.

From 1987 to 2012 he directed the Zagreb Quartet and for the quarter of the century he embedded his skill and art into the existence of this oldest chamber ensemble, not only in Croatia but in Europe as well. The Zagreb Quartet was established as far back as 1919, and for the period of almost a century it was a basis of the tradition of chamber music-making in Croatia; in this tradition Goran Končar is certainly one of the pivotal personalities. During this period he appeared in more than 2,000 concerts, and under his guidance the Zagreb Quartet had more than 1,000 performances, appearing on all continents in best known world concert halls, and cooperated with a large number of Croatian and foreign soloists. Končar also played the majority of first performances of works composed by Croatian composers written for the strings quartet, and he also published 15 albums. What should not be forgotten is the fact that the Quartet had to find a solution for their working space as a crucial problem. In the year 2007, supported by the City of Zagreb, the Zagreb Quartet was granted their own studio in 31 Ilica Street. Under Končar’s guidance the Zagreb Quartet performed all quartets composed by Shostakovich, Mozart, Prokofiev, Janáček, the majority of Haydn’s quartets and all quintets.
